On the southernmost coast of Saudi Arabia, facing the Red Sea, Jizan is an agricultural city famous for its figs and tropical fruit. This is the main southern port in the country, though its old lighthouse does not watch over much traffic. Guaranteed to be at the port, however, are ships and flukas waiting to take passengers to the Farasan Islands. This protected large group of coral islands is located immediately north of the city and home to many rare species of flora and fauna. As this city lies in the Tihamah coastal region, one of the hottest places in the world, escaping to the mountains, the forest or the sea is an essential perk for those travelling to Jizan.
