Introduction to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Jeddah, situated halfway along Saudi Arabia's western Red Sea coast and facing across to Egypt and Sudan, is the second-biggest city in the country. The city is famed for its beaches, shopping and dining. Al-Balad is the city's historic quarter and features unique coral houses and bustling souks. The Corniche travels along the city's shoreline and links all the major districts and beaches. This road offers spectacular sea views and some unusual statues. The promenade's iconic King Fahd Fountain shoots jets of seawater 300m into the air. Tahliya Street runs inland and is lined with major fashion designer outlets including Cartier and shopping centres with air-conditioned restaurants. Visitors will find a plentiful selection of Jeddah hotels dotted along the Corniche and the areas adjacent to it. King Abdulaziz International Airport is just north of the city, with many Hajj pilgrims using Jeddah as a stopover point on the journey to Mecca or Medina. Visit our Jeddah Travel Guide
