Introduction to Hail, Saudi Arabia
Hail (Ha'il) is a northern Saudi Arabian oasis located in the Najd highlands. Historically, the city was on the camel caravan route for the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca, selling dates, fruits and grain to those passing through. The town's heritage can be explored in the beautiful Ha'il Museum, from which tours to nearby rock carvings can be arranged. In the Barzan area, where Barzan Palace once stood, is a thriving souk. Every Friday, there is a smaller, traditional souk on the other side of town. If something cannot be found in these markets, the largest modern shopping centre in Hail is the Samah Centre. Towering over the city on a nearby hill is the 200-year-old A'irif Fort. In the centre of the city, close to many Hail hotels, the Qishlah Fortress impresses as the largest mud-brick fortress in the region. The similarly constructed At-Turathy Restaurant is a local landmark for its traditional cuisine and museum-like atmosphere. A lakeside park is located outside the city on As Samra Mountain, opposite Aja Mountain, where the current governor of Hail resides in a grand palace.other spellings: hailhotels, hail otel, hotellin hial, hail hote, hail hotle
