Introduction to Gros Islet - Rodney Bay
Named after a British naval officer from its colonial era, the resort area of Rodney Bay adjacent to Gros Islet is a beautiful location that serves many tourists every year. It is positioned along the northwestern coastline of the island of Saint Lucia, and is home to a large and popular marina. Rodney Bay hotels can accommodate a large number of tourists at any one time as there are several different accommodation options available. Visitors can reach the bay by taking a bus or car along Castries-Gros Islet Highway on the western coast of Saint Lucia. Rodney Bay is only a few hundred metres from the centre of Gros Islet, and just to the east of Reduit Beach. One of the most attractive features of the area is the large traditional brig that sits close to the marina. It was actually part of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and offers visitors an unrivalled exploration of Saint Lucia's interesting maritime past.
