Introduction to Gros Islet - Bonaire Bay
Bonaire Bay is a picturesque location on the northwest coast of St Lucia. Part of the town of Gros Islet, it is a short drive from George FL Charles Airport and the island capital of Castries. The bay is a relaxing place with white sands and translucent seas. Swimming, snorkelling and beach strolls can be enjoyed. Bonaire Bay hotels dot the coast, but are well spaced away from one another. There are a few beach café-bars here, but most people head into Castries if they are looking for exciting nightlife. Rodney Bay Marina, Gros Islet's historic village quarter and Pigeon Island are all close by. The latter is home to 18th century forts and is one of the venues for St Lucia Jazz Festival stage performances. A causeway connects the island to the mainland. The Friday Night Street Party in the old village is a weekly event featuring vendor stalls and bands playing Caribbean music.
