St Petersburg Travel Guide
The Russian mid-range joints offer perhaps the best night out. Bar-Club Cynic off Antonenko is one such place, featuring all manner of games such as table football and draughts along with the occasional karaoke session and more often DJ sets playing everything from house to hip-hop depending on the night. Nevsky Prospekt is a good starting point to find other drinking holes such as Seventh Pint and Cannelle Bar, which is big on cocktails.
St Petersburg is also a favourite for gamblers. Casinos like Adamant on Nabereznaya Reki Moiki offers free drinks for those playing the tables and a regular happy hour from 09:00 until 01:00. Other casinos in the city include Plaza, Astoria Casino Club Restaurant at the hotel of the same name, and Hollywood Restaurant among many others. As their titles suggest, most double up as restaurant-bars serving a full menu of food and drinks.
Make sure to check the status of Tunnel as it has been closed on a number of occasions in recent years due to its excessive association with the drug trade. Despite Russia’s deserved reputation as a bastion of conservatism and in some cases victimisation when it comes to gays and lesbians, clubs catering to both are available in St Petersburg, the most popular being Kabare and Greshniki.
