Indeed, these days Russia’s capital is as hip as any of Europe’s fashionable nightlife centres, with venues offering a wide selection of scenes and genres, catering to the needs of both the general masses and those seeking something a little more underground.
Nightclubs regularly feature internationally famous DJs or visiting movements from overseas establishments; while pubs and bars feature the usual selection of international themes such as Irish, Latin and European sports bars. Surprisingly, there is even a thriving gay and lesbian bar scene – with the days of persecution of homosexuality quickly being put behind the country.
Bowling is also popular in the country, and there are a number of good lanes offering late-night bowling with black lights and loud music to accompany. Of course, attending a classical music performance is always a good choice. Russian opera and ballet are also popular.
