Kolomenskoye Estate Museum: the building that houses this popular museum was, in a previous life, the summer home of members of the Russian aristocracy. The structure, which is situated on Prospekt Andropova, gained the splendour that it illustrates today via the additions that were made to it during the 16th and 17th centuries. The facility houses important events and visiting exhibitions, as well as having its own permanent collection of artefacts.

Museum of Moscow History: among the city’s oldest museums, this facility dates back to 1896. The collection features a large variety of objects relating to life in Moscow from ancient to contemporary times. Of particular note is the exhibition devoted to the Muscovites, with artefacts such as traditional clothing, tools and furniture.

State Historical Museum: is the country’s largest museum facility dedicated to history and was built between 1875 and 1881 under the watchful eyes of architects Shervud and Semenov.

The museum’s collection includes a vast range of artefacts, with everything from examples of national dress to glass and ceramic items, as well as some of the possessions of Peter the Great, Ivan the Terrible and members of the Romanov family. There are also in excess of 500,000 pieces of fine art with works by both masters and relative unknowns.
