Introduction to Yaroslavl, Russia

Yaroslavl is a city on Russia’s Golden Ring of historical attractions. Yaroslavl is 260kms from Moscow and is at the centre of the local rail and road network. Yaroslavl is at the confluence of the Volga and the River Kotorosl. Sovietskaya Square contains the landmark Elias the Prophet’s Church, which is now a museum. Many of the Yaroslavl hotels are in the vicinity of Sovietskaya and close to the Volga’s banks. Spaso Preobrazhensky (monastery) is the city’s oldest religious structure and is one of many interesting sights dotted around the city centre and through the suburbs. The larger Yaroslavl hotels are three and four star establishments and offer full facilities including restaurants, fitness centres and service shops. There are a few mini hotels in Yaroslavl which are further away from the centre. Demidovsky Pillar and Russia’s oldest theatre are in the centre, along with Yaroslavl’s retail outlets and the riverside eateries.
