Introduction to Moscow - Bely Gorod
Belygorod is a province situated in central Russia. Its name in Slovac means 'White Town’, and it’s so called because of the white wall which once provided a link between the Kremlin and Kitay-gorod on the bank of the River Moskva. It was built in the 16th century to defend the city against the Crimean Tatars. Many of the original towers and gates still exist, and those which were demolished with the wall during the reign of Catherine the Great have had their names preserved in the city’s squares. A chain of boulevards replaced the wall, which became known as Boulevard Ring. Belygorod is known for its elegance and has become a prominent cultural district. Moscow hotels here cater to a variety of tourists who take advantage of the moderate climate compared with other parts of the Russia. Moscow is less than 700kms away and regular trains run between the cities daily, with a journey time of around 12 hours.Visit our Moscow Travel Guide
