Suceava is a great place to base yourself if you have come to northern Romania to visit the Painted Monasteries of Bukovina. Many people choose to stay in hotels in Suceava while they are here and there is a good range of budget to luxury Suceava hotels. Hotels in Suceava are also popular as the city is only 11kms from the Stefan Cel Mare Airport which runs flights from Bucharest and Timisoara. There is also a train station the centre of town, around which you will find many Suceava hotels. The city is home to a 14th century fortress which remains intact, despite attacks over the years. There are also some very historic churches here, a Museum of Bukovia and an Astronomic Observatory. Most, however, choose to travel from their hotels and visit the Painted Monasteries that surround the city. Joint trips can be booked at the Tourist Information Centre in town.
