Lovely Deva lies on the banks of the Mures River and is situated in the Romanian region of Transylvania. Around 80,000 people live in Deva, which is an old city even by Romanian standards with fortress ruins dating back to ancient times. Citadel Hill is the main landmark in town and many hotels in Deva will offer guides to the trails and roads that lead up the hill away forom the town. Energetic visitors will happily make the day-long journey there and back on foot but others will take up the courtesy buses that may travel agencies and accommodations offer guests. The views of the city from the Deva Citadel are superb and photo opportunities are excellent. The crisp air at the top of the hill make it a great place to have a picnic and this is exactly what many choose to do.
