Introduction to Craiova, Romania
Craiova is the sixth largest city in Romania. Attractions here include St Demetrius Church and the Madona Dudu Church with its extraordinary murals. Baniei House hosts a folk art museum, and the Church of Cosuna Monastery is the oldest building in the region, built in 1483 but restored after several earthquakes occurred over the intervening centuries. Craiova hotels surround Nicolae Romanescu Park which is the central public green space of the city. The 1900 World Fair was held here and the park spreads into the Botanical Garden which hosts the agricutltural division of the University of Craiova. Some lodgings provide boat rental so that visitors can enjoy a paddle on the park's main lake. Other properties are more modern in their marketing and orientation with some great new accommodations located across the various areas of the city. The excellent Craiova Art Museum is open daily and houses all manner of sculptures and paintings by artists from Romania.
