Another great town in the Wallachia region of Romania is Calarasi which sites on the banks of the Borcea tributary of the Danube River. It is closer to the border with Bulgaria than it is to the Romanian capital of Bucharest and so as a result there are many people living here with close connections to Bulgaria or even, people that live in Bulgaria and make the brief journey here daily for work. Calarasi is about a 15 minute drive from the Bulgarian border. Calarasi hotels are a modest bunch with most tourism streaming east to the shores of the Black Sea. It is not a particularly vibrant tourist town but there are plenty of hotels in Calarasi for the people that do decide to stay here. Calarasi hotels are diverse however, with even some student dormitories in town and excellent campsites near the river. Good kayaking outfits rent equipment for adventures on the river.
