Bacau is a university town and several main Romanian artists and poets were born and raised here.

The city's famous Puppet Theatre and the Philharmonic Orchestra are part of Bacau's cultural appeals and several hotels are located very near to both of these attractions.

Other hotels are located just outside the city limits near the town of Tescani do a roaring trade each year when the International Painting Camp is held there annualy.

Ancient ruins and tapestries are held at the Iulian Antonescu museum and many Bacau hotels will show replicas of some of these will hang in foyers and other smaller copies will be displayed in the guest rooms.

During semester periods there are huge student parties and lots of young people out on the street, including visiting families and friends of students.

The university hosts regular conferences and major events and so during these times too, Bacau is more festive than usual.
