Introduction to Doha - Beach
Doha is the economic and cultural centre of Qatar as well as the country's largest city. In English, its name translates to 'big tree'. Doha is situated along the Gulf coast and its Corniche, or beach promenade, is its visual highlight. The promenade, lined with palm trees, bends around the bay. It is a great place for walking, jogging or rollerblading. It houses the Museum of Islamic Arts, a magnificent structure that was designed by the famous architect IM Pei. It houses artefacts from all over Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The Corniche is the gateway to the city's beaches, which can be found just north of Doha Bay. Here, visitors will find some of the city's most high-end Doha Beach hotels offering fabulous views of the city, the Gulf and Al Safliya Island. Many accommodations have their own private stretch of beach. The Cultural Village can be found near the beaches and consists of an auditorium, a museum, an art gallery and a library.
