Overview & Introduction to Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is a very popular vacation destination in the Caribbean. To the east of the Dominican Republic, the country is an archipelago which is made up of the primary island of Puerto Rico, and several smaller islands. The capital is San Juan, which is a popular stop for the cruises that ply the Caribbean, especially during the peak summer months.
Known for its rich history, beautiful beaches and excellent cuisine, Puerto Rico is a popular destination for North Americans and Europeans. The locals are friendly and easy-going, making Puerto Rico a relaxing vacation destination. Most visitors will start off by exploring San Juan, the capital and then head to the other islands. Some of the best beaches in the Caribbean can be found here, as well as plenty of nature reserves.
There are plenty of activities to enjoy in Puerto Rico, whether it’s hiking in the rainforests or golfing or, for the more adventurous, exploring the vast network of underground caves or scuba diving. Fishing, sailing, surfing and all other water activities are easily available.
The complex history of the island, with its native residents, Spanish, African slaves and US connection is still well-represented among the people of the island, where visitors will see a large difference in skin colour and varied cuisines. Visitors will enjoy the vibrant culture and festivities on the island. There is always something going on and partying into the early morning hours is common practice.
