Lisbon Travel Guide - Getting There

By air: the main international airport in Lisbon, and indeed the whole country, is the Portela Airport, just a short 30-minute taxi ride from the centre of the city. In recent years connections to Lisbon have increased and there are now connections to every inhabited corner of the globe, mostly European destinations. Budget airlines Monarch and easyJet both fly here.
By rail: it is a long way if you’re coming from the UK, Germany and particularly Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, but it is still very possible. Lisbon and the whole of Portugal is part of the InterRail network that allows travellers to pay a fixed price to travel across Europe based on a set time within certain zones.
By road: travel by car or bus to Lisbon from the rest of the continent from Lisbon takes even longer than by train, but is again possible. Most coaches will connect with Madrid or Barcelona in Spain. By car, the main A6 road heading east out of Lisbon is the route to be on heading to Spain, which eventually reaches Madrid in the heart of the country, about 600kms away.
