Introduction to Terceira - Angra do Heroismo
Set on the beautiful Portuguese island of Terceira, Angra do Heroismo boasts a fascinating history and has earned a spot on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. Often referred to simply as Angra, tourists flock to this capital of the Azores archipelago from far and wide to enjoy its seaside location, cobblestone streets, fascinating history and stunning views. The town is centred on its harbour, where one can catch boats to and from Ponta Delgada and elsewhere in the Azores. Set back slightly is the city centre, which is lined with fascinating architecture, historical sights, cafes, restaurants, pubs and Angra do Heroismo hotels. Nearby attractions include a small beachfront as well as the Fortress of St John the Baptist, which features massive, moss-covered stone walls and fantastic views of the city and Monte Brasil, set on the peninsula overlooking the city.
