The magnificent beachfront village of Praia de Mira is found within the city of Mira, in the Coimbra district of western Portugal. The beach town is located about halfway between the larger towns of Averio and Figueira da Foz, and contains a number of interesting attractions that will appeal to all kinds of tourists. Praia de Mira hotels range in size, style and affordability, but have one thing in common - a close proximity to the beach. Not surprisingly, the beach at the town is the main tourist site. It is often regarded as the best beach in Portugal, surpassing those of the Algarve region in the far south. However, on the other side of the town is a beautiful lagoon which is home to various water sports. Visitors can also take some time out on a traditional fishing boat when holidaying in Praia de Mira. Off the main beach is a fisherman's chapel which isn't overly historical, but is of sentimental value to the town's residents.
