Introduction to Porto - Massarelos
Northwestern Portugal is home to Massarelos, an easygoing parish in Porto municipality. It has a population of 7,750. The small community is graced by its stately Old Town, which enjoys the privileged status of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Other attractions are the town's Rosa Mota sports hall, Custom House, Porto's fish market and the Campo Alegre neighborhood, where an old theatre and many buildings of the University of Porto are found. One real nifty highlight here is the Porto Trams and Tram Museum. What's more, trams are coming back into their own as a revitalised way of transportation rather than just dusty exhibits after a lull in their usage and promotion that lasted several decades. In 2007, after a 30-year gap, trams returned to downtown Porto as Route 22. Riding the trams to Massarelos hotels makes for a cheap, easy, low-carbon-footprint way to get around the city centre.Visit our Porto Travel Guide
