Located in the central western region of Portugal, the medieval town of Pombal is a fascinating destination to behold. The town is home to about 16,000 residents, and welcomes a fair amount of visitors throughout the course of a year. The town is only about five kilometres from the A1 auto-estrada, which can be reached via the N1 highway or the N237 highway that pass through the town. Pombal hotels accommodate the many thousands of tourists that enter the settlement. Most of these tourists travel to the town by train. The town castle, which was built and renovated during the Middle Ages, is the main sight within the settlement. However, there are many more attractions to witness while holidaying in Pombal. The two most famous churches in the town are the Church of Sao Martinho and the Church of Santa Maria do Castelo. There is an interesting town square found in the heart of the commune, which is home to a famous monument of one of the Marques de Pombal.
