Introduction to Ovar, Portugal
The town of Ovar is located between two of Portugal's largest northern cities - Porto and Aveiro. The town is only a few kilometres from the coastal region of the country, and therefore is popular for its proximity to northern Portugal's beaches. To the east of the town are the IC1 and A1 highways, which connect the coastal spine of the country and the two largest cities, Porto and Lisbon. Even though there are only a few thousand people living within the town, there are several Ovar hotels worth staying in. There are also a number of exciting landmarks found within the town, including a spectacular church. The parish church is a beautiful structure built in the 17th century, sitting on top of the town's main hill. Another site in the town is the Museum of Julio Dinis, dedicated to the famous Portuguese novelist. Finally, with enough time, visitors can reach the Castle of Santa Maria de Feira, a few kilometres to the northeast of the town, for a daytrip.
