Introduction to Nelas, Portugal
The town of Nelas is located in the district of Viseu, central Portugal. It is found within the municipality of the same name, which consists of eight other parishes or towns somewhat smaller in size. Nevertheless, the town is less than 10kms to the south of the E80 highway, standing at the junction of two smaller highways - the N234 and the N231. Some of the biggest cities around Nelas include Viseu, which is some 15kms to the northwest, and Tondela, about the same distance to the west. The town boasts plenty of excellent facilities for tourists and locals alike, including a dental clinic, a train station, restaurants and a small shopping complex. The local department store is called Galerias Joao XXII and provides a suitable option to soothe those shopping urges. Many Nelas hotels are found close to the train station, which sits in the southeastern region of the town, while the main highways passing through the settlement also have options.
