The town of Marinha Grande is located in the Leiria district of central western Portugal. It is found to the west of the A1 auto-estrada, and about eight kilometres from the largest town in the region, Leiria. There are two train stations found in the township which provide excellent transportation connections to Lisbon in the south. The N242 is the main road leading to and passing through the town. Marinha Grande hotels are situated in the heart of the town, close to shopping, cafes and restaurants. There are beaches found just a few kilometres to the west of the town, and several other major attractions. Nearby Leiria Forest is a pine forest reserve that is regarded as the major attraction for the area, with hiking routes, campsites and cycling trails available through the forest. Marinha Grande is also a renowned glass manufacturing city, and several factories offer excellent tours of their premises for tourists. In addition, a glass museum is also found in the town.
