Picturesque Santana is the major city in Comarca de Santana, the most fertile district on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Its rich array of flowers and charming, traditional Madeirense thatched-roof homes make this area particularly charming. The sharply sloping rooftops are endearing. Structures typically feature white walls, red doors and windows with blue trim.
