Lisbon Airport is one of the few remaining airports situated inside a major city in Europe, with most air facilities having been relocated to sites away from commercial areas. While plans are in place to transfer the airport to a new location, the hub currently continues to cater to in excess of 14 million passengers a year. Flights from this Lisbon facility, Portugal's primary international gateway, serve a wide range of global cities, from Paris, Newark and Brussels, to Helsinki, Cancun and Sao Tome. The closest parish to the airport is Portela, which borders to the east, after which the facility was named. This parish, along with the neighbouring parish of Sao Joao de Brito, offers a number of Lisbon Airport hotels.
