The highest part of the city, Alta, also houses several Coimbra hotels and is almost as handily placed for tourists. The old town centre is full of interesting places and makes a wonderful place to roam around and soak up the atmosphere. There are many independent shops and boutiques alongside a multitude of cafs and restaurants providing a welcome change from huge shopping centres.
