The small town of Cascais sits on the coast next to the more well known Estoril, about 30 minutes away from Lisbon by car. The town is becoming more popular as a slightly cheaper alternative to its neighbour and there are no end of apartments and hotels in Cascais catering for holidaymakers. A new marina has been built here and this makes a pleasant place to sit and enjoy a drink and admire the yachts. There are several Cascais hotels, cafs, restaurants and bars located near here. Local attractions are a small museum, Museu do Mar, that provides details of Cascais’s history and close to the town is a huge rock called Boca do Inferno, Mouth of Hell, which spews out spray and roars as waves from the sea crash against it. Just along the coast and making for a pleasant evening stroll from the hotels in Cascais is the popular casino in Estoril.
