Set in the Algarve on the narrow stretch of Portugal's glorious southern coastline is the picturesque fishing village of Carvoeiro, one of the most desirable holiday destinations on the Iberian Peninsula. One of its prettiest, most secluded spots is Albandeira Beach, just to the east side of town past Benagil and the popular Marinha Beach. Albandeira nestles in a perfect bay off a tiny one-lane road, enticing tourists with its exclusivity. A cafe sits at the top of the cliffs next to the beach's parking lot, and visitors will need to meander down a wooden boardwalk to discover this flawless stretch of sand surrounded by towering rocks and gorges. Several Albandeira Beach hotels are found just inland from the bay, while others can be reached by walking along the rocky coast. Sun umbrellas aren't necessary here, as the cliffs provide a generous shady area for those preferring to protect themselves from the strong Mediterranean rays. Swim or boat around the west corner of the beach to discover another rocky bay that's devoid of any sand, but contains some of the area's most beautiful grottoes.
