Introduction to Braganca, Portugal
The city of Braganca in the north of Portugal is situated in the Tras-os-Montes area only 22kms from the border with Spain. This is not really on the usual tourist circuit which means visitors get to see an old city unaffected by commercialism. There is a small selection of hotels in Braganca catering well for those who visit. The city's finest attraction is the medieval Cidadela that sits just above Braganca on the top of the hill. The approach is a little steep and some visitors might want to take a taxi from the hotels in Braganca rather than face the walk. The Cidadela has several features that attract visitors including the keep and the ancient council chamber.
