Introduction to Aveiro, Portugal
Aveiro is a gorgeous city situated 68kms along the coast from Porto. Although there are several great beaches close to the city almost as popular are the canals of Aveiro where visitors can imagine they are in Venice as they travel onboard exquisitely painted moliceiros, the local version of a gondola. Accommodation choices here are varied with hotels in Aveiro spread between the city centre and the coast. The most popular of the Aveiro hotels are in the beachside locations and the beaches here are among the best in the region. There are a few water sports available here but Costa Nova beach, further along the coast, has better surf conditions. For evening entertainment most visitors take a walk or taxi from the hotels in Aveiro to the area around the fish market plaza (Mercado do Peixe).
