Once just a small fishing village in the Algarve, Alvor is now one of the more traditional looking towns in the region and has managed to keep much local development to the outskirts. This is where you will find most of the hotels in Alvor but they are within easy reach of the old cobbled streets of the heart of the town. Being on the coast looking out at Lagos Bay provides the town with a fantastic stretch of beaches and along the shoreline are dotted several large Alvor hotels and resorts. Throughout the small town centre you will find a mix of shops with many selling locally produced handicrafts. The restaurants in the town offer varied menus catering for most tastes and several of the bars provide good evening entertainment. It takes about an hour to reach most of the hotels in Alvor from Faro airport which is just 70kms away.
