Introduction to Katowice - City Centre
Located in southern Poland's Silesian Highlands, in the region known as Silesia, the city of Katowice is Upper Silesia's capital city as well as the cultural, commercial, industrial, educational and scientific hub of the most urbanised and densely populated region in Poland. Visitors to Katowice, which has a population of 310,000, will find a decent range of Katowice City Centre hotels which offer comfortable and reasonably priced lodging options. This vibrant city, with its high-rise structures comparable to the Polish capital of Warsaw in number, offers visitors an extensive selection of entertainment venues that compensate for the limited sights. Most architectural styles here reflect the communist era though there are still some ruins to be seen of the city's 19th century impressiveness and many great samples of modern architecture from the early 20th century. Tourists should not miss exploring the city's two most remarkable districts, Giszowiec and Nikiszowiec. Katowice Airport is ideally located less than 20 miles away from the city centre.
