Introduction to Bialystok, Poland
Bialystok, which sits in northeast Poland, is ideally located for the many natural attractions found in this region, known as the 'Green Lungs of Poland'. The city, the biggest in the area, is considered the gateway to the many outdoors delights of the Podlasie region. Fans of trivia may be interested to note that Ludwik Zamenhoff, who created the Esperanto language, was born here. From hotels in Bialystok, visitors can enjoy a good range of attractions without leaving the city. The most notable of these is Branicki Palace, parts of which date from the 18th century and housing a school of medicine. Nearby is Warszawska Street, which is lined by buildings from the 19th century. Bialystok's history museum is just off this street. Most of the town centre attractions are easy to reach on foot. Like many old Polish cities, the Old Town and its Market Square are key tourist destinations. The district of Dojlidy, about 3.5kms to the southeast, is home to some attractive old palaces. Four national parks are easily reached from the city, including Bialowieza National Park, which has UNESCO World Heritage status.other spellings: bialystkohotels, bialysotk otel, bialytsok hotell, bialsytok hote, biaylstok hotes
