January Festivals
Buling-buling Festival: is celebrated during the Fiesta de Sto Nino, the Buling-buling Festival is marked by marching and dancing parades starting early in the morning and lasting for most of the day. In Manila, the parade often includes creative floats depicting the baby Jesus.
Feast of the Black Nazarene: is a procession of the Black Nazarene, a life-sized ebony statue of Christ that has been housed in the Saint John the Baptist Church in Quiapo since 1787. Huge crowds of people follow the statue throughout the procession, believing that it carries healing and miraculous powers. Every second Tuesday of January.
April Festivals
Holy Week: is a period commemorating the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ. It marks the end of the season of Lenten with a festive Mass and celebration on Easter Sunday. Mid-April.
May Festivals
Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo: Santacruzan is a series of religious processions where ladies dress up to depict various historical and biblical characters, the most prominent of which is the Reyna Elena. The Flores de Mayo is slightly different, as the ladies represent the various titles of the Virgin Mary.
