January Festivals
Ati-Atihan: is held in Kalibo, Aklan and is one of the biggest and most celebrated Philippine festivals. It is celebrated in honour of the Sto Nino, or ‘holy child’. Natives and participating tourists cover their bodies with black paint, wear very colourful costumes and parade around town to the beat of Hala bira!

Sinulog: is a related festival which is held during the third weekend of January in the southern province of Cebu. This fiesta is in honour of the Sto. Nino de Cebu (holy child of Cebu) and is celebrated by a procession and dancing or singing competitions. Much like the Ati-Atihan, the Sinulog Festival is marked by revelry to the beat of ‘Pit Senor!‘
April Festivals
Moriones Festival: held yearly in the province of Marinduque, the Moriones is one of the most popular Philippine festivals. Locals dress up in colourful costumes and re-enact the story of Longinus. The streets of Boac and other nearby areas are transformed into a giant stage as the life of Longinus unfolds.

Santacruzan: is celebrated all over the Philippines. Each town, and even village, stage their own procession to commemorate St Helena's discovery of the ‘True Cross’. This religious celebration takes nine days, from the day that a novena in honour of the Holy Cross is held.

Pahiyas sa Quezon: this festival is held in May in the province of Tayabas, Quezon. Farmers show gratitude for a bountiful harvest by decking their homes with colourful leaf-like rice called kropeck. The town is dotted with trade fairs, processions, and civic parades, among other activities.
