Cebu is a modern and sophisticated metropolis with the welcoming appeal of a tropical island. It has beautiful beach resorts and attractive tourist attractions alongside Friendly people, sweet mangœes and guitar playing locals.
Magellan’s Cross: is located in Magellan’s Street. The cross itself is encased in hollow tindalo wood to protect the original cross planted by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. It marks the exact spot where Rajah Humabon, Queen Juana and a further 400 followers were baptised to become the first Christian Filipinos. In the 16th century, the Augustinian priests built a shrine for the cross.
The National Museum: can be found within Fort San Pedro and is where the remains of San Diego shipwreck can be found. It also houses much information about the history and life of those living in the Philippines. It is presently managed by the Philippine Tourism Authority.
The Rizal Museum and Library: can be within the Cebu City Library on Osmena Boulevard. It contains an antique collection of paintings, sculptures, and other artefacts donated by the rich and famous Cebuano family.
Olango Wildlife Sanctuary: Cebu also has many places for nature enthusiasts such as the Olango Wildlife Sanctuary, which is located at the southernmost part of the Olango Island. The sanctuary protects the largest concentration of birds migrating to the country.
Mactan Island: is located in Mandaue City and is a coral island with many world-class beach resorts. It is a popular site for scuba diving, snorkelling and other water sports. Mactan Island is also considered an Export Processing Zone where 102 companies employing more than 37,000 people are in operation.
