Palawan is located in the Southern Tagalog area of the Philippines. It was originally known as Palaoyu, which means ‘the land of beautiful and safe harbour’ in Chinese. It is made up of several islands, which are the: Balabac Island in the south, Busuanga in the north, Agutaya in the northeast, Spratly and Kalayaan in the west, and Cagayancillo in the east.
