Introduction to Cebu - Cebu City
Cebu City is located on the Philippine island of Cebu and is the second-largest city in the island nation. Known as the cultural capital of the Philippines, this city offers plenty for the visitor to enjoy. The most imposing landmark of the city is the Waterfront City Hotel, perched on top of a hill. The city still has remnants of its colonial Spanish past, such as the 16th century Basilica of Santo Nino, the Magellan's Cross planted by early Spanish and Portuguese explorers, and the Spanish-built Fort San Pedro. A great example of Spanish architecture is the Casa Gorordo Museum, housed in what was originally a Spanish merchant's home. The main shopping and business area in the city is the Ayala Center and the Terraces. It features a beautiful garden and a musical fountain. A must-see is the large Lapu-Lapu Monument of a local Filipino warrior who fought against Magellan in 1521.
