Introduction to Bohol - Baclayon
The historic city of Baclayon is situated on the southern coast of the island of Bohol in the central Philippines and features a distinctly Spanish colonial feel set in a lovely seaside location. This city dates back to the late 1500s and was the first on the island to be settled by the Spanish. Today, much of the original architecture remains and there is also a good array of Baclayon hotels, inns and resorts for visitors to choose from. Tourists passing through should not miss the town's most famous attraction: a large historic Catholic church and museum classified as a National Historic Treasure and considered to be the best-kept church anywhere in the region. Visitors can also venture out to Pamilacan Island by pump boat to explore the evocative remains of the Spanish fort, or head to the historic marketplace to sample fresh local foods and stock up on local crafts such as winnowing baskets and saroks. Alternatively, a stroll through the town to check out the lovely ancestral houses, some of which date back to the early 19th century, is a great way to pass the time.Visit our Bohol Travel Guide
