Introduction to Puno - City Centre
On the shores of Lake Titicaca lies the town of Puno, a charming spot in southern Peru known as the folklore capital of the country. There is an incredible heritage here of cultural performances such as dance and music. If you visit during any of the main celebrations like the Feast of the Virgin of Candelaria, you will witness this heritage in full force. Another interesting aspect of Puno is its proximity to 41 floating islands inhabited by the traditional Uros people. These islands are a major tourist destination on Lake Titicaca, along with the ancient ruins in the area. Nearly all of the attractions are located outside of town, but visitors will find a good range of traveller amenities within Puno city centre, especially around Central Market and Lima Street. Puno City Centre hotels are mainly budget guesthouses situated around the main plaza that serves the steady stream of backpackers who come to explore Lake Titicaca.Visit our Puno Travel Guide
