Introduction to Puno - Beach
Puno Beach is a small resort town located on the shore of the famous Lake Titicaca, in southeastern Peru. Lake Titicaca is the largest lake in South America and one of the highest lakes in the world. It is famous for its water birds, aquatic life and many floating 'islands' that are made of reeds and inhabited by indigenous people. Boat rides on the lake to see the islands are a must. The lake is surrounded by mountains and hiking is a popular past time here. The main landmark in the town is the cathedral, which was built during the Spanish colonial period and is a good example of Spanish architecture. The town is famous for its cultural heritage, especially its traditional Peruvian dance. The town's elevation is over 3,800 metres therefore many visitors require some time to acclimate after arriving and prior to embarking on any physically strenuous activities. Puno Beach hotels are mostly clustered off the Avenue del Puerto.Visit our Puno Travel Guide
