Introduction to Puerto Maldonado, Peru
Surrounded by some of the world's most pristine and bio-diverse rainforests in the world, Puerto Maldonado is a moderate sized city in Peru's southeastern region. Unlike the name suggests, the region is not a famed port hub. It got its name from the logging industry that dominated the area up until the end of last century. Today, the district is dependent on tourism as its prominent source of income. Hotels in Puerto Maldonado are plentiful, varying in prices, styles and location. Many tourists frequent the town, particularly between the months of May to August, when the properties are at their busiest. Eco-tourism is a huge feature of the vicinity. A high majority of establishments are eco-lodgings, located in the surrounding rainforest parks, including Manu National Park and Tambopata National Reserve. It is easily reached via air, as the area operates the Padre Aldamiz International Airport.
