Things to do in Peru
Arequipa - view the stunning buildings of the main square
The main square in Arequipa is stunning with its white volcanic rock buildings. It is completely transformed at night, by all the street lights and floodlights. Two of the most stunning buildings located on the square is the magnificent neo renaissance cathedral, which was completed in 1850 and the town hall, which was built around the same time. Both of these are reconstructions of earlier buildings that had been destroyed by earthquakes, and are magnificent both outside and inside.
Cusco - tour the amazing Macchu Pichu
Machu Picchu is probably the most famous of the ancient Inca sites, and no visit to Peru would be complete with out a tour of the ruins. Located up in the Peruvian Andes 2,400 metres above sea level, the site covers 325 square kilometres and has hundreds of buildings and temples to explore. With the help of local guides, you should see magnificent views down into the valleys below and Condors riding the air currents.
Lima - experience a horse carriage tour
The city of Lima is filled with beautiful buildings, and has many restaurants to try and dine at. One of the best ways to take a tour of the city and get your bearings is to take a trip in the back of a horse drawn carriage. Mostly the carriages travel around the Plaza Major and they are extremely popular. Be prepared to wait your turn, as there are only 8 of these carriages, and frequently there are only 3 in use at one time.
Puno - experience the vast Titicaca lake
Lake Titicaca is the highest lake in the world that is navigable. It has supported civilisation for thousands of years. No one actually knows how the lake was formed, but it is large enough to have its own waves. There are farmers all around the lake living the same way as their ancestors did and in the same style of clothing. Try to get to see one of the five floating islands of the Uro tribe that are completely made of reeds, as are their boats, houses and handicrafts, that make great souvenirs.
Introduction to Peru
The South American country of Peru is a fascinating country to visit, there is so much for the visitor to see and do from the lovely capital city of Lima, the Amazon, beaches, high mountain trekking, the Inca Trail and Peru’s most infamous icon, Macchu Pichu.

Hotels in Peru range from friendly homestays to luxury hotels.

Most visitors to Lima choose to stay in Peru hotels in the Miraflores district, here you will find excellent bars, restaurants and it’s just a short walk to the beach.

For those about to embark on the Inca Trail, it is a good idea to acclimatize your body to the high altitude and stay in Peru hotels around Arequipa, Cuzco and Colca Canyon.

You can never be too sure how your body will react to the high altitude, most people are fine but chewing cocoa leaves like the locals can help.

Don’t miss out on a trip to the beautiful Lake Titicaca.
