Located within the Republic of Panama, Gamboa is a charming and quaint town that bears remnants of the former Canal Zone. The town is named after a tree that is a part of the quince family. Situated on the Charges River bend, Gamboa offers visitors spectacular views of Lake Gatun. Hotels in Gamboa are available around the town and are all mostly mid-range and affordable. There is a single lane bridge that connects the district to the rest of Panama from across the river. Although the quarter is no longer a residential power house as it was during the early to mid 1900's, it is still inhabited. Because it is still the headquarters of the Dredging Division of the Panama Canal Authority, there are a handful of accommodations in the area. For those not fond of creepy crawlers, the precinct is notorious for being the home of caymans, iguanas and crocodiles.
