Muscat Travel Guide - Nightlife

Even by Middle Eastern standards, the Omani capital is tame after dark; alcohol is tolerated to a certain degree although you will only find it in upscale restaurants and in the bigger hotels catering to international guests, which also host a handful of night clubs.
Being drunk in public is not acceptable in Muscat or indeed anywhere in the country and foreigners will be expected to remain particularly discreet during the holy month of Ramadan.
Later in the evening, though, this rule is sometimes relaxed. Patrons dressed in beach-type attire are also likely to find themselves barred from entering.
The Intercontinental Hotel close to the downtown area is one of a few places with a sports bar that serves alcohol and food until late while showing major sporting events, particularly football.
Most locals, meaning men, will usually spend evenings drinking tea or coffee while smoking flavoured tobacco through Middle Eastern pipes and enjoying a nice, long chat.
