Muscat Travel Guide
Bus:

Commonly known as baisa buses by foreigners familiar with the city, these small vans load up with passengers and do fixed routes usually along the highway to and from the Corniche area. Make sure to ask the route before you get in, of course, and expect to pay a few hundred baisa per journey, hence the name.
Taxi:

Getting a taxi in Muscat can be an expensive experience for those that don’t know the unofficial rules so act savvy. First of all, never negotiate a price beforehand as this will be a dead giveaway that you don’t know the scene.
On foot:

If you’re here during the period from March to October, then walking in the Omani capital for any great distance is likely to get unbearable because of the heat. In December and January, it is usually much more pleasant, particularly in the early morning and at dusk.
Getting between the three main areas of Muscat proper, Ruwi and Matrah requires a very long walk and is generally not possible; however, within each area a stroll is often by far the best way to get around.
