Health for Visitors to Oman
When travelling in the desert by vehicle, take back-up fuel and water and always tell someone where you are going. A satellite phone is a major advantage.
Healthcare facilities are generally good, with hospitals and smaller clinics available in all towns and cities. Almost all staff will speak good English as well as Arabic. Visitors to the country will not need any special vaccinations but should make sure that typhoid and tetanus are up to date. Rabies and Hepatitis A are also considered mandatory and Hepatitis B vaccine is recommended.
Minor stomach ailments are the most common illnesses experienced by Western travellers to Oman so it makes sense to bring diarrhoea medicines, although these are widely available in country.
