Introduction to Salalah - Airport
Located by the shores of the Arabian Sea, the Omani city of Salalah sits in the country's southern Dhofar region, of which it is the capital. Both the city and the region are famous for trading in frankincense, which has long powered this, important hub. The city is served by an airport located a few miles to the north. Hotels at Salalah Airport provide a fine mix of access to transport options to the range of sights in and around the city. One of the most interesting is the ancient city in the area known as Haffa. Visitors can come to the al-Hisn Souq and engage in pretty much the same market haggling that has carried on here for centuries. Various souvenirs, handicrafts, dates and of course frankincense are all on offer; Dhofari frankincense burners are also popular. Salalah is often considered Oman's second city. This is due to the fact that Sultan Qaboos was born here. His sprawling palace is one of the city's biggest tourist attractions.
